The holidays are upon us, so lets talk about lighting, specifically LED lights.  The LED (Light Emitting Diode) systems have some significant advantages over traditional holiday lights.  They can reduce energy costs by 70% or more, they are more durable, and have a very long life span.  These types of lights are low voltage, enabling designs that are no longer limited to the amount of power in your yard.  You can actually run a string of lights 1/2 mile long from a single electrical outlet!  LED’s are more expensive up front, however they are a much better value long term due to their energy savings.

While we highly recommend professional installation of commercial grade products, here are some tips for all of the do-it-yourselfers out there:

1. Make sure the lights and extension cords are made for outdoor use.

2. Use the appropriate number of strings per outlet, to avoid overloading any circuit.

3. Test lights before hanging for proper working order.

4. Don’t use light strings with broken lights or frayed wires.

5. Have a helper for safety, especially when using a ladder.
