Designscapes Colorado's Landscape Staff

Michael Buchenau

Landscape Designer

In the Industry Since: 1985

With Designscapes Colorado Since: 2020

Before I joined Designscapes Colorado, I was the Executive Director at Denver Urban Gardens for over 26 years, where I collaborated with community members to design, build and steward DUG's metro-wide network of community gardens and farms. In conjunction, I worked as a freelance Landscape Architect, completing multiple residential landscape design/build projects each year in the Denver Metro area. I hold a Masters degree in Landscape Architecture from Harvard University and a B.S. in Landscape Architecture from Colorado State University. I have served on Denver's Sustainable Food Policy Council and Denver Water's Citizen's advisory committee as well as being a found board member of several grassroot organizations. This lead me to receiving the "Colorado Public Health Association's Florence Sabin Award" which recognizes leaders in improving public health through gardens and sustainable food systems. I have always been drawn to the green industry because of the unique opportunity it offers to work in-sync with nature while creating engaging and beautiful outdoor spaces for our clients.

I am a native of Denver and I love to spend my free time gardening, skiing, hiking, golfing and fly-fishing with my wonderful family.
