The Opportunity

THE OPPORTUNITY

This role is responsible for assisting in the maintenance of fleet operations of small, light, and medium-duty vehicles and equipment. Handle diagnostics and repairs as well as minor mechanical repairs to ensure proper performance and safety of equipment. Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.

Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Mechanic Responsibilities:

  • Performing preventative maintenance and repair of a variety of small equipment light-duty vehicles, as well as some heavy equipment such as wheel loaders, backhoes, excavators, trenchers, motor graders, pick-up trucks, single and tandem dump trucks, tractor trailers, flatbed and dump trailers as directed by Foreman or Shop Manager.
  • Examining mechanical equipment and evaluating to determine necessary repairs and/or maintenance.
  • Disassembly of equipment, trucks, trailers, which involves repairing and/or replacing broken components.
  • Complete accurate equipment service orders daily.
  • Use of the red and green tag system to identify out-of-service assets and prepared-for-service assets.
  • Perform annual DOT inspections and complete repairs to correct any component or system failures.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area free from hazards.
  • Help shop employees picking up and receiving parts ordered.
  • Complete annual DOT Appendix G training course.
  • Inspect equipment and vehicles in company yard as well as field job sites.
  • Follows all safety rules and regulations.

Shop Logistical Support

  • Drive company vehicle to pick up and drop off parts at vendor locations in and around the Denver-metro area.

Winter Responsibilities:

  • During winter months and when snow and/or ice is forecasted, Fleet Mechanic II will be on-call for snow related equipment repairs per the shop rotation schedule.

 

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma / GE
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing small, light, and medium-duty vehicles and equipment.
  • Ability to pass required safety training, DOT physical exam, background check and drug testing.
Specialized Knowledges, Skills and Abilities:
  • Excellent communications skills.
  • Ability to take direction, adapt to change, establish relationships, build consensus, anticipate. roadblocks, and work in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of other landscape equipment such as trenchers, loaders, landscape tractors is a plus.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple duties, projects, and work assignments.
  • Thorough knowledge of equipment and vehicle operation.
  • Excellent mechanical skills and strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to read schematics, both hydraulic and electrical.
  • Thorough knowledge of the limitations of specific types of construction equipment and safety practices used in performing maintenance services.
  • Bi-lingual skills (English/Spanish) are highly desired.

Travel Requirements

Type of Travel: Traveling to job sites to inspect equipment, picking and dropping off parts and vehicles at vendor locations, responding to snow operations field repairs on equipment and vehicles

Percent of Travel: 10%









Work Environment:
  • Moderately undesirable working conditions. (i.e. occasional exposure to significant levels of temperature, air pollution, noise pollution, chemical gases and substances; physical trauma conditions of a minor nature such as cuts, bruises and minor burns). The work schedule varies depending on the weather, during busy season start time is 6:30am. The position may require work on Saturday’s or late night in the case of an emergency. The Fleet Mechanic II should be flexible with availability depending on the needs of the shop.
