The Opportunity

As Foreman I, you will be responsible for organizing the overall construction of a particular project for a particular job site. The focus is on the overall management of the job site. He or she is responsible for providing proper instruction to the crew so they can proceed with various tasks. Snow removal operations during the winter months is required for this position.

How to Qualify:

  • Refer a Landscape Technician or Foreman.
  • They must put your name on our Employment Application.
  • They must work 200 hours. 
  • Once the hours are worked, receive a one time $200 bonus per landscape technician or a one time bonus of $500 per foreman you refer and is hired. 

Responsibilities

Pre-walk

  • Walk through the project with the project manager, architect and client to discuss scope, schedule, layout, and possible change orders.
  • Coordinate with the project manager to determine the required crew size, materials (irrigation, rock, plant material, sod, mulch, etc.) and equipment necessary to start the project and to maintain the project efficiency.

Crew Management

  • Instrumental in the hiring and firing of crew members.
  • Responsible for training landscape technicians and lead(s) in respect to various irrigation, landscape and safety task.
  • Determine job responsibilities for crew members based upon their skill set.
  • Motivate and direct the crew to work with high level of efficiency and ensure that the work is completed correctly and on time.
  • Assist in monitoring the labor cost analysis weekly, and recommend any changes required to stay within budget.
  • Manage various performance and attendance problems with staff.
  • Recommend to the project manager any discipline required to maintain the performance of a crew member.
  • Maintain Designscapes Colorado’s quality standards throughout the project.
  • If a problem arises, the foreman may alter the schedule to minimize down time or assign workers to another task/project if necessary.

Warranty Work

  • Respond to requests to repair/replace plant materials that have not met quality standards.

Materials and Equipment

  • Ensure proper use of equipment by understanding, communicating, directing and training the crew on the proper use of equipment, its capabilities and limitations (specifically use, weight & volume limitations).
  • Know the skill level of each operator to determine if they are qualified to operate specific equipment.
  • Record accurate hours for equipment on a weekly basis.

Administrative Paperwork

  • Complete timesheets and submit by the established deadline.
  • Submit billing/invoices in a timely manner.
  • Complete daily Driver Inspection Report (DIR).
  • Process Purchase Orders (PO's).
  • Maintain project folder.
  • Distribute paychecks weekly.

Safety

  • Confirm all locates are accurate and up to date by following the policy/procedure of digging around utilities.
  • Verify that each employee and subcontractor knows the safety practices required by his position by conducting daily safety inspections of the project site and immediately reporting any hazards to the Project Manager, and constantly watching for safety problems. Immediately report any employee injury to the project manager.
  • Perform weekly safety tailgate meetings with all crew members. Safety content to be directed by project manager or as suggested by foreman and crew.
  • Comply with all safety regulations, both statutory and policies established by Designscapes Colorado.
  • Foremen will be responsible for communicating safety procedures to employees or offering safety training to new hires.
  • Inspect the work environment or equipment to verify that no hazardous conditions exist.
  • In the event of an accident, the foreman will prepare the preliminary incident report.

Snow Removal

  • During winter months when landscaping projects are no longer scheduled, must be available 24/7 to assist in removing snow from various industrial and residential properties and complete.
  • Submit completed snow removal logs.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Three (3) or more years of experience in landscaping or related field preferred.
  • Must have valid driver license and clean MVR.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) required.

Specialized Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of construction techniques.
  • The ability to read and understand blueprints.
  • Knowledge of construction safety practices.
  • Landscape Industry Certified Technician (LICT) and Commercial Driver’s License helpful.
  • Thorough knowledge of the limitations of the specific types of construction equipment.
  • Ability to read and calculate grade stakes.
  • Excellent leadership, management, planning and motivation skills.
  • Excellent troubleshooting abilities.
  • Ability to work under moderately high stress situations.
  • Tremendous presence of mind in case of accidents.
  • A sound knowledge about landscaping procedures and safety measures.
  • Excellent time management skills.

Moderately undesirable working conditions. The work schedule varies depending on the weather. The position is required to work weekends (Sat/Sun) or late at night. The crew should be flexible with availability depending on the needs of the customers.
