Tip of the Week: The Grass is Always Greener

Have you ever wondered how your neighbor got his lawn so green this season? Have you wondered why golf courses in Cherry Hills, Greenwood Village, and Evergreen have such a lush color? Or why does the park down the street in Castle Pines seem to be tolerating the heat so well?

There is one simple answer: AERATION.

With the crazy, yet typical, Colorado weather we have been having the last couple of weeks, it is easy to put your lawn on the “back burner.” But now is the perfect time to get ready for growing season and make your lawn the best on the block.

Aeration is the process of removing small cores, or plugs of dirt from your lawn. According to turf professionals, this process should be down 2 times per year, once in the spring, and once in the fall.

Benefits of Core Aeration:

  • Reduced soil compaction
  • Improved water uptake (great for saving water!)
  • Improved fertilizer uptake (get that lawn green!)
  • Stronger root system (saving water!)
  • Enhanced thatch breakdown
  • Greener grass!
