With the cooler weather outside, there are still ways to enjoy gardening and growing plants. Windowsill herb gardens are a great way to enjoy fresh herbs all winter long (this can save money too!). Many herbs grow quite easily in containers and require only minimal care. All you need is a sunny spot and a few small containers to get started. Plants can be started from seed or from small starter plants. Kids enjoy their little science “experiment” too!
Herbs that grow successfully inside:
- Basil
- Sage
- Parsely
- Chives
- Coriander
Phil will show how easy it is and with very few materials – you can have your own windowsill garden!
Materials needed:
- Small containers with holes in the bottom (can be dixie cups, empty yogurt containers that the kids paint, etc)
- Saucers to catch the excess water
- Soil
- Small herb plants or seeds
- Label
Put in a warm, sunny place and water when the soil feels dry to the touch.
Avoid chemicals to culinary plants!
