Commercial Landscape Foreman I

The Opportunity

As Foreman I, you will be responsible for managing crew members, various projects, material and equipment required to produce a high-quality landscape build which is both under budget and completed on time. Snow removal operations during the winter months is required for this position. 
 

Responsibilities

Manage commercial and residential projects ranging in size from $10,000 to $50,000.

Manage Crew(s)

  • Manage staffing needs by hiring qualified candidates.
  • Pre-walk
    • Walk through the project with the Project Manager, Architect and Client to discuss scope, schedule, layout, and possible change orders.
    • Coordinate with the Project Manager to determine the required crew size, materials (irrigation, rock, plant material, sod, mulch, etc.) and equipment necessary to start the project and to maintain the project efficiency.
  • Direct the work of the crew as required to meet the goals established by the Project Manager. When necessary, perform the work of an operator or crew member. 
  • Responsible for training crew members and lead(s) in respect to various irrigation, landscape and safety tasks.
  • Monitor the labor cost analysis weekly and recommend any changes required to stay within budget.
  • Warranty work - respond to repair/replace requests on plant materials that have not met quality standards.
  • Recommend to the Project Manager any discipline required to maintain the performance of a crew member. The Project Manager will conduct any appropriate disciplinary action.
  • In agreement with the Project Manager and Human Resources,  exercise disciplinary action for employees when necessary up to and including termination.
  • Maintain Designscapes Colorado's quality standards throughout the project. 


Materials and Equipment

  • Maintain schedule for each piece of equipment operated. Check all fluid levels to assure they are at the required levels prior to operating any piece of equipment (on or off-site). Fill only with the specified fluids.
  • Ensure proper use of equipment by all employees by training and directing them on the proper use of equipment, its capabilities and limitations (specifically use, weight and volume limitations).
  • Know the skill level of each operator to determine if they are qualified to operate specific equipment. 
  • Maintain accurate records for the hours of use for the equipment on a weekly basis.

Administrative Paperwork

  • Complete timesheets and submit by the established deadline.
  • Submit billing/invoices in a timely manner.
  • Complete daily Driver Inspection Report (DIR).
  • Maintain project folder.
  • Distribute paychecks weekly.

Safety

  • Confirm all locates are accurate and up to date by following the policy/procedure of digging around utilities.
  • Maintain safety on the project by verifying that each employee and subcontractor knows the safety practices required by his/her position.
    • Conduct daily safety inspections of the project site and immediately report any hazards to the Superintendent or Project Manager.
    • Immediately report any employee injury to the Superintendent or Project Manager.
  • Perform weekly safety tailgate meetings with all crew members. Safety content to be directed by Project Manager or as suggested by Foreman and crew. 

Snow Removal

  • During winter months when landscaping projects are no longer scheduled, must be available 24/7 to assist in removing snow from various industrial and residential properties and complete.
  • Complete snow removal logs.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • One (1) or more years of experience in landscape construction or related field preferred.
  • Must have valid driver license and clean MVR.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) required.

Specialized Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of construction techniques.
  • The ability to read and understand blueprints.
  • Knowledge of construction safety practices.
  • Landscape Industry Certified Technician (LICT) and Commercial Driver’s License helpful.
  • Thorough knowledge of the limitations of the specific types of construction equipment.
  • Ability to read and calculate grade stakes.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, squat and lift objects. May be required to lift and/or move up to 50 to 75 pounds. Must be able to drive during the course of work.

Moderately undesirable working conditions. The work schedule varies depending on the weather. The position is required to work weekends (Sat/Sun) or late at night. The crew should be flexible with availability depending on the needs of the customers.
